We’re proud to announce the second video interview in our series is now up! We interviewed Anthony Eden, CTO of Chi.mp and a local surfer and long time developer.
Anthony will be presenting a talk on “Technical Debt”, what it is, how to avoid it, and what to do when you have it. Anthony also shares his one Must Do when visiting Hawaii. Guesses as to what it is?
Mahalo to Anthony, and don’t forget to get your free domain name at Chi.mp!
Aloha on Rails, the Hawaii Ruby on Rails Conference, now has an official YouTube channel! We are posting interviews and information about the conference and Hawaii.
First up to be interviewed is Kevin English, a local surfer and Ruby on Rails developer. Kevin talks about what makes Aloha on Rails special and why developers should attend conferences. Chill music and beautiful scenes of Waikiki round out this video.
When evaluating how you spend your hard earned money, you have to look at the complete value, not just the cost. Aloha on Rails provides an excellent value and we’ll show you how.
We put together the Complete Value of Aloha on Rails. We firmly believe that if you add up everything that you get from your registration, you’ll realize that Aloha on Rails is an amazing deal.
For instance, with your registration, you are buying:
two full days full of relevant, exciting, though provoking sessions
lunch and snacks
t-shirt
networking with your peers
access to the best and brightest in the Rails and web development communities
We’re extremely excited to announce two of the newest additions to our ever growing speaker list for Aloha on Rails. This conference is shaping up to be a true testament of the breadth and aloha of the Rails community.
Yehuda Katz, core committer and spearheading the Merb/Rails merger, will teach us the principles of the Rails 3 API. He will show us how to read and understand the Rails source code so we can customize the framework just the way we want. The public API for Rails 3 is a major development, and will help stabilize the plugin and extension ecosystem.
Alan Gates, architect at Yahoo and lead on the Pig language, will teach us how to think in Map Reduce, how to grok Hadoop, and how to use Pig to quickly and easily write queries to crunch petabytes of data. Deriving value from large data sets has quickly become an important skill and competitive advantage. Systems like Hadoop and Pig level the playing field, allowing anyone to process data just like the big boys.
Attendees at Aloha on Rails will be treated to a variety of important and timely topics, all relevant to Rails and web development. We know a successful Rails system is much more than just controllers and models, and as such we are working hard to build a program that will teach you, excite you, and get you thinking and talking. Register today to secure your seat at this year’s premier destination event for Ruby on Rails!
Once your register for Aloha on Rails, you’ll probably need to find a hotel. One benefit of the economic downturn is that attendees to Aloha on Rails will be able to book some amazing hotel and airline deals.
(A is the Conference Venue at the Marriott Waikiki and B is the Prince Hotel) View Larger Map
Granted, the Prince is 1.6 miles walking distance from the Conference venue (the Marriott Waikiki), but the weather is almost always perfect and a morning stroll past the beaches is a great way to start your day.
Regardless of where you’d like to stay for the conference, I hope this shows that getting a good deal for a Waikiki hotel room is possible. There are plenty of options in the area, and we’ll pass along any good deals when we find them. You’ll almost certainly find a good deal on a hotel room closer, or at, the Marriott Waikiki.
If you find a good deal for the conference, let us know and we’ll pass it along!
